APPRECIATE WHAT YOU’VE GOT

2009 Small Standard Flower Show

produced by: Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs

Environmental responsibly has always been on the agenda of garden club members. As we come to realize just how vital the need is, the Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs took up the challenge to have a Small Standard Flower Show at the Better Living Show. For the past 10 years, we have produced one of the largest Standard Flower Show in the nation, many times winning the national award for the best flower show.  However, this invitation presented a major shift in thinking...stress native plants! Now this isn’t as difficult for horticulture since Oregon is NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL, but for floral designers that’s a challenge!  We are breaking new ground here, but that is just up our alley!  We are learning to RETHINK and design with native plants rather than those flashy, colorful tropical flowers we so very much love. As floral designers we are nothing if not resourceful, creative and always hungry to broaden their skills and knowledge. So we take up the challenge! We will use recycled, repurposed, reclaimed things in our designs and we will use at least 50% native plant material. Come check us out, see how we did as we APPRECIATE WHAT WE GOT!
