Region’s First Earth-Friendly Moving Box Rental Company Opens in Portland

Lets face it, moving is hard work. You may be looking forward to the end result, but the process of getting organized, rounding up moving supplies, packing, loading, driving, unloading, unpacking and finally getting rid of all of those cardboard boxes isn’t exactly a fun time. Boxes inevitably get crushed in the process and treasures get broken.

To top it off, cardboard boxes aren’t exactly cheap! $2.50 for a medium sized cardboard box doesn’t sound like much (Portland-area average price), until you multiply it by the 50, 75 or even 100 boxes necessary to move a home or office. True, you can reuse old boxes, but you know they aren’t as sturdy as you want them to be to keep your stuff safe and they’re usually dirty.

And don’t forget about the time and gas you have to spend running around and picking up all of those boxes and moving supplies. Tape? Did you get enough tape? It seems like you always run out of tape late at night during a packing frenzy, doesn’t it? Packing paper, too. And of course, those things cost yet more money.

No doubt about it, moving is a lot of work and it’s expensive. But now there’s a locally owned, customer-friendly business that’s here to help: AlienBox!

AlienBox offers moving box rentals and moving supplies AND—this is one of the best parts—they deliver! And pick up after you’ve unpacked! For free!

About now you’re probably saying, “Moving box rentals? As in rent boxes for just a week or two? And then the emptied boxes are picked up?” Yep! That’s what AlienBox is all about.

AlienBox rents recyclable plastic moving boxes with hinged, interlocking lids. Each box is about the size of a standard medium-size cardboard box that you might buy at a local store or moving truck rental company. You rent the boxes for a week or two from AlienBox, they deliver them (for free!), you use them to get your move on, they pick up the emptied boxes when you’re done (for free again!) and that’s that! You don’t have to run around buying boxes and then deal with breaking down and getting rid of them afterward.

But does it pencil out financially? Actually, yes. Here’s a scenario:

A “3-4 Bedroom Moving Kit” from a well known truck rental company comes with 110 cardboard boxes, 8 half-size wardrobe boxes, packing tape and 2 markers to label stuff. The cost: $341.88. It will ship to you for free and be on your doorstep in 3-5 business days. You will still need to buy packing paper and a tape gun and your shipment may arrive in separately delivered segments over the course of two or three days.

AlienBox’s 4-Bedroom Moving Package comes with 100 boxes, 2 full-size wardrobe boxes, packing paper, zip ties, 2 four-wheel moving dollies and 2 thermal coolers for refrigerated food and 2 hanging file boxes for papers and such. The cost: $295. AlienBox will deliver it any day you want, even if you order it on Thursday and want it delivered on Friday. Packing tape not required.

There are a couple differences between the packages, so lets even them out a little with some extras. Since the cardboard kit comes with 8 half-size wardrobe boxes, lets add two more full-size AlienBox wardrobe boxes. The AlienBox package comes with 2 four-wheel dollies, so we’ll add dolly rental to the cardboard kit, too. Add some packing paper and a tape gun to the cardboard kit and a couple of markers to the AlienBox kit and you get:

Cardboard moving kit: $423

AlienBox moving package: $321

Cost savings with AlienBox: $102

Time savings and convenience with AlienBox: Probably priceless when your nerves are frazzled and you’re running out of time!

I mean, think about it: It was delivered to you (and picked up when you’re done); You didn’t have to assemble the boxes (and probably run out of tape in the middle of the night); AND all of those leftover cardboard boxes didn’t end up in the landfill or recycling bin!

AlienBox has 1, 2 and 3-bedroom size moving packages too, and each one is as good of a deal as this example, if not better.

Using AlienBox not only gets you more for your moving dollar, it’s good for the environment. The boxes are sturdier and easy to load and stack than cardboard (they have handles!), and they save you a LOT of time and work. And if that isn’t enough for you, AlienBox is locally owned and the first of it’s kind in Oregon and Southern Washington.

The next time you’re planning a move, whether you’re moving to a new home or moving your office, call AlienBox. They’re nice folks and they’re here to help. You can see them at the Better Living Show or visit their web site at www.AlienBox.com.
